Introducing the game of golf into the lives of young people is so much more than learning to putt and drive.  As a family of golfers, we want our boys to learn the game of golf but most importantly have fun!  First Tee's junior golf programs are perfect for young golfers, those brand new to the game of golf, or those who are working on improving their game in the Richmond, Virginia area.

First Tee Greater Richmond offers programs from ages 5-18. New participants should join the class with their age range. The First Tee Greater Richmond coaches will make all games and lessons for all skill levels!

First Tee Greater Richmond VA Youth Golf Programs

First Tee's junior golf / children's programs are perfect for families in the Central Virginia region who are not affiliated with a country club or private course instruction. First Tee's programs are open to anyone and everyone wanting to work on their golf skills.  My children have thoroughly enjoyed their lessons and golf at First Tee Richmond and we love that the cost is affordable for families!

The First Tee is a youth development organization that introduces golf and its values to kids and teens.The First Tee 9 Core Values are:

  • Honesty - being truthful and not deceptive both on and off the course

  • Sportsmanship - observing the rules and etiquette of golf 

  • Respect - showing regard for oneself and others

First Tee – Greater Richmond operates three facilities in the greater Richmond metropolitan area – Belmont, The Tattersall Youth Development Center and The Elson Redmond Memorial Driving Range.

All three facilities offer a variety of playing options for players of all skill levels and offer First Tee youth programs throughout the year.

First Tee Richmond Belmont Course in Henrico

- Reopened in May 2021 after a 17-month restoration and reimagination, Belmont is operated by First Tee – Greater Richmond, welcoming players of all ages and skills to find their entry point to the game.  Through the work of Love Golf Design, Belmont consists of 12 restored A.W. Tillinghast template holes alongside Little Bell, a six-hole par-3 course, and The Ringer, a reversible 18-hole putting course. Greater Richmond’s Belmont 12-hole championship course  is absolutely beautiful, and golfers will love playing this newly renovated course.

 Greater Richmond’s Belmont golf course just opened the CapTech Golf Innovation Center at First Tee. The center will foster collaboration and learning through cutting-edge applications of data, design, and technology. The goal is to spark participants’ interest in STEM and opens their minds to all of the possibilities that technology can create.  

The Innovation Center reflects the shared commitment to STEM-focused curriculum and education by CapTech and First Tee – Greater Richmond. The CapTech Golf Innovation Center will provide a dedicated space for First Tee participants to explore and learn from golf technologies to which they may not normally have access, including a newly-installed Zen Green Stage, which creates putting gradients and adjustable slopes.

Participants will also benefit from a STEM-focused curriculum and stem education that incorporates engineering, innovation, and data and analytics challenges. In addition, the tools will capture participant data, which will help coaches customize training and help participants track improvement. 

First Tee Richmond Tattersall Location

Tattersall - Chesterfield location: This USGA-rated 18-hole course is par 66 and provides a challenge for all level of golfers. In addition to the 18-hole executive course, it includes great practice facilities complete with a driving range, practice greens, and a 3-hole development course focused on scoring distances developed by renowned architect Lester George. The Tattersall Youth Development Center focuses on providing opportunities to the local community, historically hosting County, Corporate, and fund-raising events.

Elson Redmond Memorial Driving Range First Tee Location

The third location in the heart of downtown Richmond, The Elson Redmond Memorial Driving Range provides a premier experience for all golfers, offering a 6-hole par-3 course with Bermuda grass and Champion Bermuda greens built by nationally acclaimed architect Lester George. Additionally, a large grass range, practice greens and bunker, and two Trackman 4 simulator bays promote a wide variety of practice opportunities.

Membership card includes free perks for children who are participating in the youth programs such as a medium bucket of range balls, free play on the 3-hole children's course or 9 holes for free to keep practicing outside of weekly lessons.

First Tee- Greater Richmond is a nonprofit organization, so all programs are very affordable.  There is also financial assistance available for families as well through application.  Please do not let financial concerns / cost deter your family from First Tee's children's programs.    There are also scholarship opportunities available as well! 

Summer Camps at First Tee

The Summer camps at all 3 First Tee Greater Richmond locations are a huge hit and my boys are OBSESSED!  They fill up quickly, so you have to be ready to check out quickly!  The summer camps at First Tee are half day and full day and give children a chance to try out golf for the first time or return to First Tee to have fun with new and old friends on the course! As parents we know that summer camps can get pretty pricey, especially if you are sending multiple kids like me.  First Tee camps are under 200 a week for half day.  During the summer season, First Tee – Greater Richmond also offers a variety of programs suited to a variety of schedules in addition to camps like leagues, championships and tournaments. 

School Partnerships First Tee

The mission of First Tee program in Greater Richmond is to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.  The program introduces kids to the game and its inherent values through programs in elementary schools as well.

 First Tee – Greater Richmond is proud of its relationship with all Chesterfield County public schools, all Richmond city public schools, all Henrico County Public Schools, all Hanover County Public Schools and two independent schools. At these 127 schools, students in grades K through 5 are receiving life skills and golf skills through the National Schools Program.

The First Tee National Schools Program is a school-based program in which elementary students are instructed in core values, healthy habits and golf skills by their own physical education teachers trained by The First Tee staff.  The school program also works with Central Virginia schools to come visit the Richmond area locations on field trips.
