Things to know before snow tubing at Massanutten Resort:

  • There is no age requirement for Massanutten snow tubing.  The minimum height requirement for snow tubing is 36 inches.  Your child has to sit in their own tube, but you can tie your tube in front of theirs and go down together!  My youngest child was 3 when he went tubing for the first time at 38 inches and had a BLAST!

  • Have your snow tubing card ready to show the attendant to keep the line moving.

  • Have your children use the restroom before heading to your tubing appointment.  It's a hike to get back into the building and the lines for restrooms can be pretty long during peak times.

  • Be prepared to wait your turn at the top of the mountain especially if it’s the weekend.

  •  Make sure your family is on time for snow tubing because any time you miss is not recoverable.  The time slot is firm 90-minute sessions from start time of the purchased time slot.

  •  You will want to have your tickets ready to hand over to get onto the conveyor belt and back in line to go repeatedly during your reservation time frame.  The staff ask that each person hold their own tickets but with a million layers of snow gear and tiny humans, I did not trust my kids not to lose the ticket on the mountain.  I had them ready and went in front of my family and this worked perfectly.

  •  The inflatable tube is heavy for really little ones, so my husband and I helped the three-year-old with his to the conveyer lift.

What do I need to wear for snow tubing at Massanutten Resort?

For Winter snow tubing with children, it is best to have layers to take off vs cold and cranky children.

  • Having a base layer under ski bibs is a must.  Base layer could be long johns and thermals.

  • Waterproof snow pants and jackets. For my children ski bibs are helpful and easier to get on and off vs separate pieces.  I always size up 1-2 in ski bibs so they can wear for multiple years and so they can move around easily.

  • Thick socks are great under thick water proof boots will keep  feet dry and warm.

  • I like to bring extra gloves to wear under waterproof gloves in my jacket pocket as a mom just incase.

  • Warm beanie hats are a must.

  • Ski goggles if you have them, cheap sunglasses if not.
