Shoofly Farm in Chester, Virginia: Must visit in RVA

The charming barn was built in 1940 and originally used for milking cows and stepping into it is like stepping back in time to pet the animals inside. The farmhouse was built in 1879 as a part of an old farm and much larger operation spanning hundreds of acres.

Today it is a multipurpose property, and Shoofly Farm opens up the beautiful, serene space with the community to have lots of fun, exciting and helpful events, and offerings. The owner speaks openly about her passion and true purpose with the farm is to bring happiness and healing, not just for their family but for others in need and all who come to Shoofly.

Horse Rescue

Part of the amazing work that is done by the owners of Shoofly Farm is providing an animal sanctuary for horses that have significant medical needs that are often rescued from slaughterhouses. The team at Shoofly provides full-time care and a gentle loving home for horses who haven't always known a loving touch or the best life.  Many of the animals you will meet during your farm visits to Shoofly are those rescued and rehabilitated.  This isnt an easy or affordable calling, these farm animals have significant medical needs and it is extremely expensive to maintain the large vet bills.  You can read more about their mission, the history of the animals they have rescued and how to assist in their mission here.  There is information about their current rescues and how you can donate to support this special rescue on the website as well.

Check their social media pages to see if there are changes and closures due to inclement weather or other reasons, to stay up to date with what the members of the community at Shoofly Farm are up to!
